Ontario Drug benefit，簡稱“ODB”，安省藥物補助福利，是安省長者的藥物福利。這福利補助了安省長者日常所需藥物的大部份支出，除了某些藥物之外。

簡述一下關於這藥物補助福利(ODB)的

·         條件：

§  65歲或以上長者 (senior) 。如果剛滿65歲，將由生日的那個月的下一個月自動加入。例如你5月生日，就在6月自動加入。

§  擁有有效的安省醫療卡(OHIP Card)

·         劃分標準：

 

*高收入：

§  單身長者：年收入超過 $16,018

   已婚長者： 家庭收入超過 $24,175

 

§  付費標準：

首先支付處方藥費的頭$100(這$100叫做deductible，俗稱“墊底費”)，而這墊底費(deductible)由每年的8月開始收取，每年收取一次；當支付了這$100後，每一種藥需要支付$6.11(這$6.11叫做co-pay，俗稱“病人自費部份”)

 

*低收入：

§  單身長者：年收入不超過$16,018

   已婚長者： 家庭收入不超過$24,175

§  付費標準：

每一種藥需要支付$2.00(這$2.00叫做co-pay,俗稱“病人自費部份”)

Trillium Drug Program (TDP)

安省藥物補助計劃 

其實，不僅僅只是長者，對於一些有沉重的處方藥藥費負擔的安省居民來說，可以申請一個由政府資助的藥物計劃，叫做“Trillium Drug Program”，簡稱“TDP”，它可以幫你分擔大部份的處方藥支出，除了某些藥物之外。假如你的藥物支出超過您的收入4%，只要你擁有有效的安省健康卡，就可以申請這項福利。有需要的人可以到本藥房免費諮詢以及索取申請表格，或者瀏覽以下安省官方網站

簡述一下關於這藥物計劃(TDP)的

·         條件：

§  安省居民(Ontario Residents)

§  擁有有效的安省醫療卡(OHIP Card)

·         收費標準：

§  當申請之後，申請人或申請家庭已經授權給TDP，TDP會根據申請人或者申請家庭的報稅記錄，從而判斷出申請人或申請家庭的一年的墊底費(annual deductible)

§  而這一年的墊底費(annual deductible)是分開四個季度來收取：第一個季度是8,9,10月；第二個季度是11,12以及下一年的1月；第三個季度是下一年的2,3,4月；第四個季度是下一年的5,6,7月。

§  當所在的季度，申請人繳滿(fulfil)所在季度的墊底費(deductible)之後，每一種藥只需要支付$2(這$2叫做co-pay，俗稱“病人自費部份”)

Why do some seniors need to pay for drugs in August?

Some seniors may assume that the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) covers all drug costs and that "drugs are free for seniors". Although the Ontario Drug Benefit covers many commonly used drugs for seniors living in Ontario with a valid health card, seniors may still have to pay part of the cost depending on their annual income. Here are the criteria:

If you are a single senior (65 years or older) with a yearly net income of $16,018 or more, 
OR
If you are a senior couple with a combined yearly net income of $24, 175 or more, 

Then, you have to pay the first $100 of your prescription drug costs every year. This is called your "deductible". This deductible is collected starting August 1st of every year. Once the deductible is reached, you will only need to pay $6.11 to fill a prescription covered under ODB. 

At Custom Care Pharmacy, we waive $2.11 for all patients that normally needs to pay $6.11 co-payment.  

So what if you are a single senior with yearly net income of less than $16.018 or a senior couple with combined yearly income less than $24, 175? 

Based on the criteria, you should NOT need to pay for the $100 annual deductible and you will only need to pay $2 for each prescription co-payment. You will need to apply for the seniors co-payment program by completing an application form and sending it to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ontario Drug Benefit Program. 

We have the application forms at Custom Care Pharmacy and we are happy to provide guidance on how to fill out the application form. Once your application is approved, Custom Care Pharmacy waives the $2 co-payment for prescriptions covered under ODB. 

Besides the senior ODB program, there is also a program called the Trillium Drug Program (TDP) that helps people who have high prescription drug costs relative to their household income. It covers all drugs approved under the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) program. For drug products that are not on the list of approved ODB products, your doctor may apply for special approval through the Exceptional Access Program (EAP).

First of all, our pharmacists may need to order vaccines for you to prevent diseases like hepatitis, typhoid or yellow fever.  Keep in mind that some vaccines need to be given at least 4 weeks prior to your travel in order for you to receive maximum protection. To prevent travellers’ diarrhea and cholera, the oral vaccine (Dukoral) should be started at least 2 weeks before you leave.    

Secondly, if you are travelling for more than 3 months, your drug insurance plan may not cover the full supply of the drugs that you will need for your trip. Seniors and other patients covered under the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) are also subjected to some restrictions in terms of vacation drugs supply depending on the supply.  

This is why you should talk to your pharmacist as early in your vacation planning as possible.  Our pharmacists can help you plan out your re-fill schedule so that you can receive the maximum travel supply of your medications. We will also help you fill out the required documentation confirming your travel plan.  At Custom Care Pharmacy, this service is of no charge to you.

有關女性口服避孕藥雅緻（YAZ）和優思明（Yasmin) 的報導

近日，有關女性口服避孕藥雅緻（YAZ）和優思明（Yasmin）比其他避孕藥具有較高的形成血液凝塊風險的報導。

我們美健藥房在聽到這一消息後，主動聯絡我們藥房正在服用優思明的顧客，以解決她們的疑問或顧慮。

雖然雅緻（YAZ）和優思明（Yasmin）仍然能夠通過處方購買，但是有些顧客可能開始考慮選擇其他的處方避孕藥。

其實，市面上還有其他一些常用的口服避孕藥，不含與雅緻（YAZ）和優思明（Yasmin）相同的激素drospirenone。例如：Alesse（也可為Alysena 和Aviane），Min Ovral，Marvelon（APRI）,Tricyclen Lo等。雖然這些口服避孕藥與雅緻（YAZ）和優思明（Yasmin）相比有較低的形成血液凝塊的風險，但是在每10,000名服用這些避孕藥的女性中仍然會有1 個案例發現會形成血塊。

有些人可能會考慮使用一些非口服的避孕方法例如荷爾蒙宮內節育器 (Mirena, IUS）或者非荷爾蒙的宮內節育器（NOVA-T, IUD）。這些節育器需要由醫生植入，它們可提供3-5年的避孕效果。

還有一種非口服的避孕處方藥叫黃體酮注射劑（Depo-Provera），需要由醫生注射，避孕效果為3個月。

以上僅僅是一些其他常見的處方避孕藥的例子，而每種類型都會有不同的風險和效果，或者未必適合您去使用。例如，35歲以上有抽煙習慣的女性，不應使用口服的避孕藥，因為會增加形成血液凝塊的風險。她們應先向醫生諮詢詳情，以確定選擇正確的避孕方法。

Recent news about Yaz and Yasmin Birth Control Pills

Recently, there were news about women taking the birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin having higher risk of blood clots compared to women taking other birth control pills.

We, at Custom Care Pharmacy, have proactively contacted patients taking either Yaz or Yasmin to address their questions or concerns after hearing about the news.

While Yaz and Yasmin are still available through prescription, many women may now be wondering about other prescription options for birth control.

There are other commonly used oral birth control pills that do not contain the same hormone (drospirenone) as Yaz and Yasmin. Examples are Alesse (also available as Alysena and Aviane), Min Ovral (Portia), Marvelon (Apri), Tricyclen Lo, etc. Although these oral birth control pills seem to have lower risk of blood clots compared to Yaz or Yasmin, one in 10,000 women taking these birth control pills will still develop blood clots.

Some women may consider using 'non-oral' birth control prescription options such as the hormonal (Mirena®) intrauterine device (IUD) or the non-hormonal Intrauterine device (Nova-T). These devices are inserted by physicians and they provide contraception for a 3-5 years period.

Another ‘non-oral’ birth control prescription is the (Depo-Provera®) progesterone injection. This injection is given by the doctor every 3 months for contraception. 

These are just a few common examples of prescription birth control options. Each type has a different risk and benefit profile that may or may not be suitable for you to use. For example, women over the age of 35 who smoke are at an increased risk of blood clots and should not be using birth control pills. We encourage women to discuss with their doctor to determine the right prescription birth control option for them.
